WHAT EXACTLY IS A LOGO?

logo

/ˈlōɡō/ noun

Definition: A symbol or other design adopted by an organization to identify its products, uniform, vehicles, etc.

A logo is graphic of some sort used to convey and identify a brand to a specific audience.

A logo is used to set the mood of a business, and ultimately create interest around whatever message your business or brand is trying to convey or have on their targeted audience.

GOOD LOGOS ARE CRITICAL FOR RACE CAR DRIVERS, TEAMS, BRANDS AND BUSINESSES, AS THEY ESTABLISH THE BRAND IN A WAY THAT RESONATES WITH IT’S FANS.

The Design Process

I am excited to share this logo design with you.

A lot of you probably had seen this logo in the real world already, at this weekend’s Racing Xtravaganza show.

I was contacted by April Clark, owner of Three Lane Creative, to create the Central PA Legends logo for 2020.

I was provided with several assets to use in this design, and given several parameters to work within, but not completely limiting my own creativity.

I had a lot of fun compiling this logo together, based on what I was given to work with.

Items we definitely wanted to highlight within the new 2020 Central Pennsylvania Legends series logo design were:

  • “CENTRAL PA LEGENDS” name

  • Series Sponsor’s logo – “GENE LATTA FORD”

  • A Legend car

  • A sleek design that worked together.

After discussing the parameters and requirements, I quickly got to work on the computer.

I worked in Adobe Illustrator to create a vector logo.

What is a Vector logo?

A vector logo is very valuable when it comes to design work.

A vector logo is made up of points, and it can be scaled down or up and will not become pixelated, or fuzzy like raster images (aka – a JPEG or photo file).

A vector logo is what you need to scale up for billboards, or scale down for smaller items.

A lot of print companies require vector artwork for t-shirts, embroidered items, vinyl items, or printed materials, because they know it will be crisp and clean artwork to utilize.

Also, if they would need to alter it for whatever reason, they know they have that opportunity to do so, to make adjustments. A raster or JPEG version will not work.

I provided roughly 6 original different logo designs for the Central PA Legends committee to discuss among themselves and make changes to in order to get a good base level logo design. We could always make tweaks later on, or a completely new design, if they wouldn’t have liked the original 6 designs as a starting point.

They got back to me right away with crisp instructions on a few things they wanted to see happen, and we quickly got a nice finished logo, all within a 3 day time span.

Now you can find this logo on their website, and all of their promotional pieces at various shows through the winter.

Logo Downloads

With every logo that I design and every client I design for I make a web page on my website to download from my website for my clients with their specific login client number, protected by a password of course.

This way my clients know exactly where they can find the files and know each step of the process.

I give my clients the following files to download:

  • .PNG (raster) w/ transparent background

  • .JPEG (raster) w/ black and white backgrounds

  • .AI (vector)

  • .PDF (vector)

  • .EPS (vector)

I also offer my clients extra assistance, if they would need any other files for their projects to let me know and I can create them for them.
