2020 Hero Card – Dylan Cisney

PROJECT // HERO CARD DESIGN

THE DESIGN PROCESS

After Dylan’s second win at Lincoln, he raced at BAPS Motor Speedway the night after. I was standing waiting for a friend, and he asked me if we could get started on some driver autograph cards for him and if I could fit him in!

Of course, I could get him a design made up!

I had shot several images at a Lincoln Speedway’s practice after the second race, to get some better images of Dylan’s car to use for his card, to make his card stand out.

Dylan Cisney is the race car driver of the No. 5 410 winged sprint car, from Port Royal, Pennsylvania and he has been doing a bunch of traveling in 2020 to date: Lincoln Speedway (2 wins), Selinsgrove Speedway, BAPS Motor Speedway, and Port Royal Speedway.

Dylan has had several accomplishments across the 410 division during his racing career, including winning Port Royal Speedway’s 2019 Season Opener and the 2019 Jan Opperman Memorial PA Speedweek race winner. Also, congratulations on your 2nd 410 Sprint Car feature win, at Lincoln Speedway, on June 6th, 2020.

Like all my clients, I had Dylan fill out my custom hero card questionnaire.

He was very organized, and sent me over everything from logos, to graphics, that I would need for the card.

I have found my driver hero card questionnaire has been a huge benefit and time saver in designing each autograph card.

I have found this makes gathering my clients career and racing highlights easier, as well as very concise and focused on what truly will benefit their audience or reach that will pick up their cards.

Some of my clients have had a hard time coming up with the information, not just any information, but the necessary information that is needed for their card, and this questionnaire gets them thinking of what’s truly important or several “musts” for any autograph card. This questionnaire takes out the back and forth between my clients, and keeps all of their information in one place.

Items we definitely wanted to highlight on Dylan’s autograph card were:

  • Marketing Partners for the 2020 season

  • Dylan’s Social Media & Website information

  • Dylan’s Racing Career, Stats, & Accomplishments

  • A professional and clean looking card.

Branding is crucial when it comes to an effective and unique hero card, and if you look at the past hero cards that I have done, you will notice a trend, no matter what style of racing, that specific autograph card is for.

I used the colors, yellow, red, white and black directly from the graphics that were sent over. I also used bits and pieces of his card design, such as his name plate graphic and number. I think tying in these two pieces make a hero card more interesting and really stand out, versus one that has a unorganized feel to it. This helps keep everything consistent and look great, when fans are walking through the pits. This allows for easy recognition, and really ties in your marketing partners as well!
